The Juvie Boy Entertainers showed once again why they are carnival kings by cleaning up on Koppe Dag at Athlone Stadium on Saturday night.
It was the finals of Section 1 of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association competition and the reigning carnival kings defended their title in 2020 with the highest score in 10 items.
The Juvie Boy were up against Exquisite Golden Gate, Bishop Lavis Youth Development, Hazendal, Hip Hop Entertainers, Fabulous Seawind Entertainers, Cape Town Hawkers, D6 Hanover Minstrels, Fabulous Woodstock Starlites and fierce rivals West London All Stars, who pushed the champs all the way.
The klopse troupes saved the best for last and brought down the house with the Group Song section, which was done differently from previous years in that the singpakke included choreography.
Other hotly contested items were Best Band and Coon Song.
The competing teams came to haal uit en wys with some including showstopper props and costumes in their performance.
The jol went on until after 11pm, but the packed house stayed until after midnight for the all-important trophy ceremony.
Juvie Boy Entertainers brand manager Muneeb Bassier was proud of his champion team, who claimed 10 first prizes in the 17 items.
“We are really pleased with the outcome and want to thank our fellow competitors for the lekker competition they brought.
“This made us stronger and able to push our limits.
“The carnival was lekker, we are the carnival kings for a third year in a row,” said a jubilant Bassier.
