NAG FOR KNIGHTHOOD?
Subhead: Becks’ reported title could be stripped after leaked report
DAVID Beckham could have scored a helse own goal as his reported knighthood could be in jeopardy.
According to reports from various news outlets, the legendary English footballer is set to receive a knighthood in the King’s Birthday Honours list this week.
For Becks, it would be a hewige honour, with sources close to him saying that he has smaaked to “Sir David” with a seer hart.
The news was first reported by The Sun, marking a significant milestone in Beckham’s life and career.
The 50-year-old father of four has long been considered a prime candidate for the honour, thanks to his extraordinary contributions to football and charity.
He was previously honoured by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2003, when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to football.
At the time, Beckham had already achieved remarkable success on the pitch, having captained the England national team.
Beckham, a Manchester United legend and now the owner of Inter Miami, retired from professional football in 2013 but has continued to serve as an ambassador for British sport and culture.
His work with charities, including UNICEF. He has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for 20 years, advocating for children's rights and raising awareness on issues like education, health, and protection.
With the knighthood, Beckham will become "Sir David Beckham", and his wife, fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will assume the courtesy title "Lady Beckham".
But a royal commentator reckons that this might be taken from him before the list is published on Saturday, 14 June, if it found out that someone in the Beckham camp let the news leak.
Richard Fitzwilliams, who is the former editor of The International's Who's Who, explains: "There is a theoretical threat that names leaked before the Honours List is officially announced could have their honours removed.
"This is highly unlikely especially given the number of high-profile names leaked ahead of receiving their honours in the past, which have included Barbara Windsor and Tim Henman."
Fitzwilliams adds to the Mirror: “It appears there periodically seems to be a ‘mole’ in the system.
“If the leak had come from David’s camp, then there may be a risk to his knighthood, but that most emphatically does not seem to be the case.”
