Wayne McKay wants to add a happy ending to an abnormal 2020.
The comedian is hosting his first show of 2020 at Mesopotamia restaurant in the city centre on Friday night.
The one-man stand-up is called The New Normal and is all about life during the pandemic.
Wayne gives his hilarious take on figuring out how to operate Zoom, masking while driving and why 2020 was just not so Twenty Plenty.
“The pandemic has been hard for everyone, there was a lot we had to endure in terms of family, friends… not being able to go to family funerals was tough,” he says.
“I will be talking a lot about sanitising and what happens to coloured people when alcohol is not available. I will blend a bit of everything.
“This is my first live stand-up comedy show for 2020 and first online show.
“I’ve been involved in other online shows before, but not my own. It’s been a challenge to adapt to the new norm of doing comedy to a camera, it’s weird to talk to an audience who isn’t with you.
“Luckily with this show, I will have about 40 live audience members and it will be streamed live to an audience who are at their homes.”
The 52-year-old from Bayview says the lockdown was a sukkel, but it gave him time to work on his writing.
undefined“During the pandemic, as a comic, I was busy writing but not performing.
“Also because I work in radio, I work from 8am until 6.30pm daily, so I had to be on the ball when working in media.
“I have an online show called Back Chat with Wayne on Bush Radio daily.”
The New Normal will be live on Friday at 7pm, but mense can also purchase tickets for the online show via Quicket for R65.
