Stellenbosch singer Hilton Andries has released a new song in honour of his late mom, whom he took care of for many years.
Titled More Sal Die Son Weer Skyn, the track was released last week and the 37-year-old singer says he wants his song to inspire others who have been through similar trials.
His mom suffered from Parkinson’s disease for 25 years, and Hilton, who studied Environmental Health at CPUT, took care of her for 17 years until she died in 2018.
Now, three years later, he has finally released More Sal Die Son Weer Skyn, and hopes others will take inspiration from it, and describes it as “one of those songs that can carry you through any challenge and bring comfort especially with loss”.
The arts lover started singing at three years old and has been singing professionally for 15 years.
He says: “When my mom passed away, this was a way to deal with the heaviness of all the anxiety, depression and loss.
“This song was produced by Melvin Williams.”
He describes it as an “inspirational gospel-pop feel-good song.”
Hilton says over time he also developed a love and passion for acting and for a while he only focused on drama, putting his singing and songwriting on hold.
He spotted an advert in a newspaper, which promoted the AKTV music auditions in 2016 and it renewed his first love.
Hilton took part in the ATKV music auditions in 2016 but didn’t make it and returned in 2017 when he fine tuned his music skills.
Móre Sal Die Son Weer Skyn was released on 16 July and is available on multiple digital platforms including Apple Music.
