A Kraaifontein man's gatmaak video encouraging youngsters to get their driver’s licence is going viral.
The upbeat rap number is called Get Your License and the music video which, was released on social media on Monday, has garnered almost 40 000 views.
Liam Petersen, 24, who is a Legal/Compliance intern, says: “Clearly people are loving it!”
Liam says he loves memes and when his friends, who know him for his license rants, convinced him to do a song about getting legal on the road, he knew he had to do it.
Liam says he is obsessed with memes: “I just love good jokes, to be honest.
“In 2016, I got the idea to start making my own meme pictures and videos. I mostly make relatable content that people will laugh at.
“I am not a singer, my friend Keenan Hector, wrote and produced the song. He is a rapper.
“This was an idea for my next big meme. On my social media, I always post memes telling people to get their license.”
Liam says the song was made to encourage nervous drivers and make people smile.
The song goes: “Hello, go get your license...Don't wanna sit behind the wheel now you're sitting with a crisis...Stop delaying it just cause you're nervous... We know you let your learners expire on purpose... Keep your pace, looking both ways... Don't worry if the cars behind you have road rage... And take this down as a note to self...The way to parallel park is to park somewhere else...”
Liam, who passed his driver’s license on his first attempt five years ago, adds: “People's reactions are so funny because they feel both called out and encouraged by the song.
“It's for jokes, but I also wanted it to be a proper music video so that's why I went all out.”
The video was filmed at the V&A Waterfront by Jason Hans and is a mixture of skits and rapping: “We literally sat in my room, planning the video verse for verse. We sorted a location and shot the video on one day.
“The video includes me, Keenan, Jason and two other friends who came with just to bring the vibes.”
