The days of curvy girls sukkeling to find a dazzling wedding gown for their big day are over.
VH Designs ft. Embrace Your Curves - Bridal Collection is changing the narrative for curvy bridal wear in Cape Town.
With many industries coming to a sudden halt during the Coronavirus lockdown, friends and business owners Valencia Harrison and Candice Manuel used the time to create something iconic in the plus size fashion industry.
The duo are now launching a bridal range for the plus size ladies and say it’s been very rewarding seeing their dream take shape.
The range will launch on 22 January, but the businesswomen gave the Daily Voice an exclusive sneak peek into the collection.
The sizes range from 14 to 26 and the dress profiles range from mermaid to floaty.
Candice, who owns the plus size brand Embrace Your Curves, says it was her own experience hunting for a trourok that inspired her to start the plus size range.
“The designs were constructed by both me and Val,” she says.
“In December, I celebrated my five-year wedding anniversary, and this reminded me of my wedding day, when I struggled to find a dress in boutiques and designer stores.
“What they offered a curvy woman back then was a corset and a poofy skirt, and I wanted a sexy fitted dress, but this wasn't possible.
“Our dresses are soft fabric and there is a full rail of dresses to fit any shape and size.
“There is no uncomfortable boning, the fabric is stretchy and makes it comfortable for the bride to wear throughout her wedding day.”
Valencia says brides have the option of hiring the rokke or having them custom-made.
The range will be launched on the Embrace Your Curves social media pages and on the Valencia Harrison website and Facebook page.
