Steenberg singer Esther Philander has just released her debut single and says she hopes to inspire women to take a stand.
The sensual songbird teamed up with Colour Blind Records to drop some original music during Women’s Month.
Esther, 27, says Comprehension is an R&B, Trap, Soul record that primarily focuses on empowering women who find themselves in situations they often don’t want to be in.
“The process of writing and forming a song like Comprehension was such a rollercoaster for me, on one spectrum I thoroughly enjoyed the process, I was able to verbalise what I felt for a very long time, and at the same time have the hope that women out there could relate and understand where I was coming from,” she says.
“On the other end, it made me dig into feelings that were not entirely comfortable but so liberating at the same time.
“I think a lot of females share similar sentiments to what the song entails; at some point we give all we can, and then we get to a point where we realise we’ve had enough of the inconsistency.
“I truly hope this song empowers women all over, and helps them realise the power we carry.”
She sings: “I don’t need a man to tell me what I can do, everything I’ve been through, I can only blame you, you don’t understand me but you call me crazy.”
Producer Tye, 28, along with his partners Beefy Rayners and Devon Van Rooi worked on production.
Tye from Mitchells Plain says he always knew the track was going to be “special and magical” and says it’s perfect for Esther’s phenomenal vocals.
The song dropped on Friday and is available on all digital platforms.
