Congratulations are pouring in for SA actress Thuso Mbedu who was handpicked to star in a film with award-winning actress Viola Davis
The news that she will star in the upcoming film The Woman King nogal comes just weeks before her debut on Amazon Prime Video’s The Underground Railroad.
Mbedu, 29, is Mzansi’s first actress to play a leading role in a US series, based on Colson Whitehead’s winning novel about a young slave who escapes from a plantation.
The Woman King is about a general of an all-female military unit, and her daughter, battling enslavement from neighbouring tribes.
The Widows star and her husband and business partner, Julius Tennon, said in a statement: “The depth and complexity of emotional life, her authentic beauty, and regalness is potent. We were mesmerised by Thuso Mbedu. We wanted Woman King / Nawi to be the vehicle to introduce her on the big screen.”
An excited Thuso wrote on Instagram: “Those who know, know. Let’s do it! What an honour!"
undefinedFormer Generations star Winnie Ntshaba congratulated Thuso, saying: “May God continue to enlarge your territory and multiply your talents. Congratulations darling,”
Minnie Dlamini said to “keep them coming!” while a “super proud” Simz Ngema added: “It’s your time! Let the sun shine on your face.”
