STURVY: Expresso Morning Show’s take on gatsby
Cape Town gatsby lovers were left with a bad taste in their mouths after SABC 3 breakfast show Expresso shared a post of their sturvy version of the Cape Flats’ favourite takeaways dite.
The photo of Fry’s “The Big Fry Gatsby-Style” dish posted on the Expresso Morning Show’s Twitter page was captioned: “A Gatsby is one of Mzansi’s family favourites, and with one simple swop it can satisfy even the healthiest of appetites. Try the @FrysFamily Big-Fry Gatsby style.”

The fancy sandwich consisted of a halved ciabatta broodjie, stuffed with air-fried chips, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, BBQ sauce and mayonnaise, with a sad-looking Fry’s big fry boerie sausage perched neatly on top.
Cape Town fast food lovers immediately expressed their disgust and duly spoeled their bekke in the comments section.
An omgekrapte Verlencia Malan said: “Expresso don’t make me bef*k...this is not a Gatsby.”
Randall Roman wondered: “If this is an interpretation of an Expresso Morning Show – SABC 3 Gatsby then I wonder what their samoosa will look like?”
And Leila Mulligan wrote: “That’s a boujee boerewors roll.”
Wednesday, Expresso Morning Show apologised for their monumental mistake live on air, as presenter Jamie Domberg explained they will be making a proper gatsby with the pro’s to make it up to their viewers.
They also stated on Twitter: “We’d like to THANK YOU for calling out our not so lekker ‘Gatsby’ yesterday.
“We heard your cries and we’re heading back to school on Monday with the help of a local legend!
“Tune in on Monday as we make an authentic Mzansi-Favourite Gatsby with the pros #ExpressoShow.”

In August, Chantal le Roux, 34, and her partner Marzanne Baard, 32, were dragged after posting their home-made gatsby on the Gatsby Society page on Facebook.
They received backlash because their fancy take on the Cape Flats favourite “wasn’t up to community standards”.
