A Hanover Park singer was one of a lucky few to score a Golden Ticket to Idols SA Theatre Week on Sunday.
Daylin Sass auditioned twice before but believes this could be his lucky year.
There were mixed emotions on stage as the judges sifted the good from the bad, paving the way for dreams of stardom to come true.
In addition, there were plenty of laughs and even birthday balloons as a lucky Golden Ticket holder also celebrated their birthday on Sunday.
This week’s guest judge was one of South Africa’s greatest talents and member of the EFF, Ringo Madlingozi, who took a day off from the world of politics, to help select the best singing talent Mzansi has to offer.
For judges Randall Abrahams, Somizi Mhlongo and Unathi Nkayi, the day brought with pleasant surprises as they dished out 24 Golden Tickets.
It was a proud moment for Cape Town when 23-year-old Daylin also received his ticket to stardom, after blowing the judges away with his rendition of Musa’s hit, I Still Feel It.
Daylin is a full-time singer and is no stranger to the Idols stage.
He studied at the London College of Music and made it to the top 3 of Emo Adams’ Maak My Famous last year.
“I’ve worked really hard to get to this moment,” he says.
“From auditioning twice before and not getting through to Theatre Week to finally making it, is such a huge and proud moment for myself and my community.
“I auditioned in season 12 and then season 15, and never made it past the judges’ round.
“Idols SA is a huge platform for upcoming artists and this is my way of stepping into the limelight and on a bigger platform.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity and whatever happens next, it’s all in God’s plan.”
Daylin joins Cape Town songbirds Lindokuhle Matina, Realeboga Kgosi and Sthuthukile Langa who bagged Golden Tickets last week Sunday.
