This Wednesday, seven of Cape Town’s top acts will be sharing a stage to raise funds for artists who are struggling to get by after being hit by the pandemic.
While the national lockdown has been adjusted to Alert Level 1, meaning large indoor venues can admit up to 750 audience members – and 50% capacity for smaller venues is permitted, entertainers are still finding it hard to land gigs.
Now, the artists at Brukman Consulting are getting together to star in Give Back To The Arts, which will be staged at the Roxy Revue Bar at GrandWest.
The all-star line-up includes Craig Lucas, Robin Pieters, Salome, Vuvu Kumalo, Craig Jordaan, Anslin Gysman and Zeldene McDonald.
It all started when Bridgette Brukman launched a personal project for her 50th birthday – to collect donations for artists in need, and turned into a stage production as interest grew.
Bridgette says: “Imagine you lived in a world where you, as a parent, weren’t able to provide for your family.
“Imagine you lived in a world where you weren’t able to practise your trade.
“Imagine you lived in a world where you have your car, home and possessions repossessed because you could not pay your bills.
“Imagine you lived in a world where you had to sell your prized possessions, the tools of your trade to provide for your family.
“Sadly this is the reality most for the artists we have loved, admired and followed over the years.
“They have not been able to perform to sold-out shows or live audiences since the Covid regulations have been enforced.
“Our beloved artists are struggling and they need our help.”
“We are heading into the festive season and every one should be free to enjoy it.”
Comedian turned painter, Carl Webber, will also auction off a special artwork to help raise funds for the project on the night .
