Three of South Africa’s best comedians have teamed up to save the District Six Museum.
Marc Lottering, Riaad Moosa and Nik Rabinowitz are hosting Night at the District Six Museum on Saturday night.
The news of the iconic museum facing closure due to the drop in visitor numbers during lockdown has seen various people come out to assist by raising much-needed funds.
Marc, Riaad and Nik first started working together on stage in 2008 in a hit show directed by David Kramer called Three Wise Men.
The equally popular sequel Three Wiser Men followed.
Marc says fans have been waiting patiently for another dose of wyse woorde and it’s coming at the end of this month.
“Our respective diaries just always clashed and never allowed us to be able to do another season, as much as we always wanted to,” says the Aunty Merle the Musical star.
“And so we felt that after all these years, just for one night, this was the perfect opportunity for a reunion, onstage and for a flippin’ fantastic cause!
“The District Six Museum is close to my heart in terms of what it represents to our people.
“It is a reminder to so many of us about where we come from. We absolutely cannot afford to have those doors shut.
“Along with many other Capetonians, I felt that we have to try to do what we can to save the museum. So this is another crucial fundraiser and I’ve called upon my two lifelong tjommies to help me.”
Unfortunately, with stand-up comedy, there isn’t a teaser, so mense will need to wait and see what surprises the gents bring to the museum.
The once-off show will be live-streamed from the District Six Museum on 31 October at 7.30pm.
Besides the trio doing their thing, there will also be pre-recorded special appearances by their female alter-egos in the form of Aunty Merle, Beryl and Ayesha.
The family-friendly show runs for 80 minutes, and tickets are available via Quicket for R80.
“We really are looking forward to a magical Night at the District Six Museum.
"Help us save the museum,” adds Marc.
