The entertainment industry may have suffered under lockdown, but now that artists can perform again, many are selflessly raising funds for worthy causes.
Who thought we’d ever be living in a time of virtual camp fires?
You can blame that on the Covid-19 pandemic.
Out the Box Solutions (OTB) is organising a unique event featuring a favourite pastime in the Cape – sitting around a fire reminiscing about yesteryear – but backed by a host of local artists to make for a polished music experience.
Camp Fire Classics is scheduled to take place on a digital platform from Penny Lane Studios in Wynberg.
Artists include Robin Pieters, Don Vino, Jarrad Ricketts, Lloyd Jansen and Roger the Dodger, while Heart FM’s Lunga Singama will host the event as MC for the evening.
OTB’s managing partner Marlo Paulse says: “I am pleased to be bringing something unique to the online environment and to be supporting local talent during this time.
“A portion of proceeds will be donated to charity in support of organisations against gender-based violence.”
Marlo says the show also encourages the audience to join in by making their own fire at home.
“The musical experience boasts 90 minutes of entertainment and encourages the viewer to be present in the moment while they light up their fires in the comfort of their own homes while watching the stream.”
Singer Jarrad Ricketts says: “I’m getting my virtual marshmallows ready to be part of this amazing new show.
“It’s been so long since I’ve been able to connect with my peers in the industry and share in music, so I’m really looking forward to being a part of this intimate experience where we can all unwind, tell stories and of course sing!”
Don Vino adds: “This is gonna be a lekker show, it’s unique and really different to the usual online shows we’ve become accustomed to; a camp fire… that’s classic!”
The singers will perform everyone’s favourite oldies from legends like James Ingram, Michael McDonald, Anita Baker, Lionel Richie, Christopher Cross and more.
Tickets are R75 at Quicket.co.za. The show starts at 6pm on Saturday.
