After years as a backing vocalist, singer Anslin Gysman, 25, has finally taken a leap of faith as a solo recording artist.
He is releasing his debut gospel single, titled Never Defeated on Easter Sunday.
“The fact that I am actually releasing music is a dream come true for me,” he says.
“I see it as a reward for the culmination of hard work I’ve put in as a backing vocalist for the last 10 years.”
The singer from Kuilsriver has worked with other artists, including Robin Pieters, Craig Lucas, Karin Kortje, Jimmy Nevis, Youngsta and Paxton Fielies.
“The lockdown has forced me to step out of my comfort zone and to think of ways to become better musically, and to try and understand what my role is,” he says.
While most artists suffered financially Anslin was lucky to have almost constant work.
“I have been extremely fortunate to have worked on the bulk of all online shows during the hard lockdown.
“I was very certain that I wanted to release new music and what better way than during this time to release a message of hope, encouragement and surety.”
Anslin says his single speaks about “the journey Christ endured on the cross for our transgressions as Christians and hopes to remind us of the hope we should all cling onto during this time”.
“This song came about during lockdown when I was reminiscing about how much Covid-19 has taken from us.
“I hope it evokes a new hope for the future and ignites a new passion for life.”
He says more songs will follow in the months to come.
The song will be available on all digital platforms from Sunday.
