A Grassy Park rapper is aiming to inspire the community’s youth and make his mark in the world with his raw rapping style.
Ameer Titus, aka Heavy G, has been rapping since the age of seven but dropped his first mixtape in 2019 and at the end of this month his sixth mixtape, titled Sabr, will be released.
“The name of the album means patience in Arabic and I chose that name because I want to tell people that through hard work and patience, you cannot force the process.”
Heavy G added that he knew he wanted to be a rapper from a young age and in 2010 he started writing his own lyrics before he eventually made his first recording.
The 21-year-old added that his major influences have been local acts such as Brasse Vannie Kaap, Black Noise, Prophets of Da City and Godessa, while he also tries to bring the influence from international groups such as the Wu-Tang Clan.
“From an early age, my dad introduced me to the local hip-hop scene and I am so grateful for that because it really helped me get my own style.
“I like to describe my style as gham, rough, rugged and raw which is also my brand name GRRR. I like to go straight to the point and just tell the truth of what is happening to the people of my community.”
The rapper hopes to one day follow in the footsteps of Youngsta CPT in that he is able to produce more rap albums but also have a clothing store so that he can employ local people to not only sell merchandise but also produce it.
