Talk about being a dom skelm.
An ex-worker of Queen Elizabeth’s stole items worth about R2 million from Buckingham Palace, but then got uitgevang selling it on an auction website.
Adamo Canto, 37, got caught out when a forensics trail found he offered 37 of the items on eBay, writes the Daily Mail.
Appearing in court, he admitted to stealing 77 items, including two prestigious medals, signed photos of Prince William and Kate Middleton and a photo album of the Royal State Banquet during Donald Trump’s state visit.
In his nine-month spree, he stole items from the palace shop, staff lockers, the linen room, the Royal Collection ticket office, the Queen’s Gallery shop and the Duke of York’s storeroom, the court heard.
The former catering assistant worked at the palace since 2015.
Prosecutor Simon Maughan said he “took advantage of lockdown of offices during Covid-19 [when he’d been] given extra cleaning roles, a deep clean giving him access to items he would not normally be given in his catering role”.
Forensic data provided by the site traced the skelm through his account.
Not all of the stolen items have been recovered, the court heard.
