Former Idols winner Sasha-Lee Davids is kicking off 2021 by serving her fans a double dose of lekker music.
After spending the last few years working on a number of successful music projects, the Atlantis songbird has just released a new song called A Little Love.
This weekend, she will also be doing her first online show – Sasha-Lee Davids Live – and says she’s looking forward to it although it will be strange not to see an audience.
“It's very different for me doing a virtual show, I love the audience,” she says.
“I'm excited about it, I had a lot of time being at home listening to music so I'm going to be sharing some of the songs I found comforting through this time (pandemic).
“It will be a personal conversation of not only my growth and turning 30, but my understanding of who I am as a woman and creative.”
Fans can look forward to a mixed bag of old and new music.
“Fans can expect to hear me belt out beautiful songs that I have written and some songs you’ve never heard before.
“So I implore you, I invite you to get to know me, not what you’ve heard of me or what was written of me or what my Idols journey is because I am way more than all of that and I’d like you to meet me.”
Sasha burst onto the scene in 2009, when in a historic turn of events, she was declared the joint winner of Idols SA season 5, sharing the title with Jason Hartman.
She was initially announced the winner, with 52.77% of the votes but four days later, Idols said some votes that were sent before the cut-off time were not counted.
It said a recount showed that Hartman had received 200 000 more votes than Sasha Lee.
Both were declared winners and received the same prizes.
The online show takes place on Saturday and Sasha-Lee will be accompanied by a full band and back-up vocalists Zia Fielies, Andrea Anthony and Zoe Davids.
Her brother Laurenzo Davids will also perform a duet with her, while Amy Tjasink will put in a guest appearance.
Tickets are R100 from Quicket.
