PLAN: Saxman Christoffel Maneville, 33

A Belhar musician and community worker wants to climb Table Mountain to help raise funds for a vehicle for the Shumeez Scott Foundation.

The foundation told the Daily Voice last week that they are working hard to gather funds to buy a vehicle to transport their members who live in Cape Town and as far as Paarl, and also to buy or rent a space for meetings.

The group has launched their Ribbon Drive campaign, aiming to sell 50 000 blue ribbons at R10 each to raise funds.

The founder Bahia Janodien currently uses her garage as a meeting place, but says it has become too small.

The members of the foundation all have Down Syndrome and Autism.

Saxophonist Christoffel Maneville, 33, wants to help and “The Climb for Down Syndrome” is his mission to raise R100 000 for the foundation.

PLEA TO THE PUBLIC: Shumeez Scott

To this end, he wants to summit Table Mountain and says: “I'm challenging 500 people to pledge R200 each to reach this goal.

“All funds raised will go towards the purchase of transportation and property to support people with Down Syndrome.”

He has also invited the public to join him on the climb on 1 May.

Bahia says she is grateful for the support: “It's really appreciated and a sweet gesture from Christoffel, we are excited and honoured.”
