South African Music Award nominee Jarrad Ricketts says he has social media to thank for his latest single, which is launched today.
Jarrad collaborated with Joburg-based producer, DJ Superior, to create a summer anthem called These Arms, which combines the sounds of slick pop and AMApiano, a first for the Simon’s Town singer.
Jarrad tells Daily Voice: “It was social media that brought us together during the pandemic, we cooked up some lekker music together and nogal just in time for the festive season.
“I think SA needs a break and what better way than to dance.”
Both Jarrad and DJ Superior were excited to get back into the studio to do what they love.
“During these difficult times it is truly the power of collaboration that can carry so many of us through.
“Social media and the virtual space has made it so much easier for us artists and producers to create and contribute to our industry, even though we are geographically dispersed,” says Jarrad.
These Arms was inspired by a road show Jarrad did to raise awareness about gender-based violence.
“The song is a message to anyone who has experienced gender-based violence to know that all the heartache and pain will come to an end, and that they will find a love that conquers all.
“As an artist, I am always eager to learn and grow, and working with DJ Superior was organic and effortless.
“We got into the studio and allowed the creative juices to take over and literally recorded and produced the entire song in two hours.
“I’m so excited for audiences to see and hear a different side of me, and to enjoy this new phase of my music where I am completely open to embracing the new,” he says.
The song is available on all digital platforms.
