If you’re in the mood for a good show for a good cause this weekend, then read on.
The Cornerstone Institute in partnership with songbird Maya Spector will be hosting a concert on Saturday night and want you to join them online.
Maya’s Honey, Heartache and Lockdown show will play with a full band with the aim of raising funds for needy students to study at the institute.
Maya is pledging a very generous 50% of the proceeds from the show towards a year-long bursary in Community Development at the Cornerstone Institute for 2022.
This bursary initiative is close to Maya’s heart, fulfilling her mission to support a special student who has limited financial resources but the desire to make a difference in their community.
Cornerstone CEO Noel Daniels says: “Cornerstone is very excited and honoured that Maya Spector has chosen us as the beneficiary for her concert.
“We particularly would like to help students who want to study community development as we believe that those students are the ones who will plough back into their communities.”
Born and raised in Japan by her Jewish-American father and a mother whose heritage is firmly rooted in the Cape Flats, Maya says she felt compelled to promote community development from a young age.
The singer-songwriter, teacher, and philanthropist says: “I’m excited to be doing this show as my last performance was two years ago.
“Doing this collaboration with Cornerstone Institute is important to me, I also studied using a bursary so I know what this feels like.
“It helped me to see more options there are in furthering one’s education.”
Tickets for the online show which starts at 7pm on Saturday, is R70.
