The lockdown has been especially harsh on poorer communities where kids suffer due to poverty.
Sons of Issachar Ministries (SOIM) in collaboration with Get It Entertainment recently rocked up in Blikkiesdorp where they fed kids a lekker meal and gave them a safe space to play.
SOIM’s Kurt Oliver said they do this regularly in poor communities to restore spirits.
“We started out as a restoration programme and the graduates would leave the programme to go home, but the agreement is that once you graduate, you must come back two days a week to spend the day with us giving back (to communities), but I noticed most of them couldn’t afford to come back.
“I then started a support group and it grew into something greater, it birthed Sons of Issachar, where we started the feeding project and got involved in various things such as mentorship at schools and restoration programmes with the homeless.
“I made a video on Facebook asking people to suggest where we need to feed, we were then approached by Spencer Fillis from Get It Entertainment who identified Blikkiesdorp.
“We teamed up with them, we brought food and treats and they played music, the kids enjoyed the day and were filled with a meal and each got a meal to take home as well.”
Spencer says: “We are grateful to have teamed up with Sons of Issachar to do this for a community that really needs this investment, people need to do more for this community and remember the children who still need to grow up here.”
Kurt urged people to get involved.
“Everything we do is an instruction of God, we train up youth to the point where they go through evangelism and mission school and then we get to do missionary trips around the world.
“Our projects are self-funded and we also rely on food donations from various organisations who assist.”
