Adele treated fans to a surprise appearance on Instagram Live on Saturday to answer questions.
The 33-year-old singer also played a snippet of the first single, Easy on Me, from her upcoming album, which she said is all about “divorce, babe, divorce”.
Lyrics include: “There ain’t no gold in this river / That I’ve been washing my hands in forever / I know there is hope in these waters / But I can’t bring myself to swim / When I am drowning in this silence / Baby, let me in.”
“That’s it. That’s all I’m going to play,” Adele said, as she stopped the music.
“Oh, my phone’s already buzzing, I’m gonna get in trouble.”
Easy on Me comes two years after she filed papers to end her marriage to Simon Konecki, the father of their almost nine-year-old son Angelo.
In a November 2021 Vogue interview, Adele however explained that the album “was more me divorcing myself... Just being like, Bitch, f***in’ hot mess, get your f***in’ s*** together!”
It was a way to explain things to Angelo, she said.
“He has so many simple questions for me that I can’t answer, because I don’t know the answer
“Like, Why can’t we still live together? That’s just not what people do when they get divorced. But why not? I’m like, I don't f***ing know. That’s not what society does.
“And: Why don’t you love my dad anymore? And I’d be like, I do love your dad. I’m just not in love.”
“I can’t make that make sense to a nine-year-old.”
