Entertainer Jarrad Ricketts and his friends are getting together to perform virtually for Mandela Day.
The event, hosted by the LEAP Science and Maths School, is raising funds to feed hundreds of hungry children in Cape Town.
There are six LEAP Science & Maths Schools located in some of the most marginalised communities in South Africa, including two based in the Western Cape.
Without access to food that nourish the body and mind, studies show that young children and teens may struggle academically, socially or emotionally, the school says.
18 July marks Mandela Day in South Africa.
For their annual contribution to the charitable cause, Jarrad and his friends host the Virtual Mandela Day Celebration Concert.
Jarrad is the LEAP Brand Ambassador and will be joined by Leah, Nhoza, Che-V and dance group WeDFy for the concert on Sunday at 2pm. Jarrad tells the Daily Voice he excited to be a part of celebrating the life of an icon.
“This concert truly resembles the scope of talent we have in our country, and how awesome that we can all come together to create beautiful music and support the wonderful work LEAP Science & Maths schools are doing to cultivate and educate the youth of our country, so they can follow in Madiba’s footsteps and be the change we need to see in this world,” he says.
Tickets are R150 via Quicket.
