It’s a laugh-a-minute in Khayelitsha tonight where 10 local come-dians are getting ready to hit you with their punchlines.
Comedian and host Pius Xulu presents the new Comedy O’ Clock SA 10 in 10, a free show where 10 comics get 10 minutes to tell their jokes.
Pius says: “Comedy O’Clock aims to create our own platforms to perform and keep the performing arts alive in different cities in and around the country.
“The come-dians haven’t been performing since the lockdown started and it’s great to have 10 of them in a show providing the masses with a good variety of acts.
“This show is free of charge, as it’s the first one and the venue is still picking itself up after the lockdown.
“We will start charging entry fees after tonight’s event, the entry fees go towards the comedians’ payment.
“It’s one way of creating paying gigs for comedians to perform in. This also gives the venue some life to pick themselves up after this horrible year.”
The line-up includes Siphelele Qoqoshe, Zwelimkhandile, Kwanda Ndoda, Asanda Xayiya, Ruairi Abrahams, Gurere, Ta’Yellow, Sakhumzi, Munda and Nathi Frenzo.
The show is happening at 95 Nkenjane Street, Litha Park, Khayelitsha, at 8pm and Pius is planning to take Comedy O’ Clock SA around the country.
“We already have a show confirmed in Durban and Gauteng is to follow,” he says.
“Each show is produced by comedians and every logistical aspect of the shows is handled by comedians, which in turn creates employment opportunities and the growth in producing more shows. We urge people to look out for Comedy O’ Clock SA posters to get involved around their communities, or alternatively get in touch with us.”
