A Lavender Hill-based charity called Rise Up Kids Foundation is slowly running dry and appeals for help to continue creating a safe space for children in the community.
Its founder Ivan Jones says they reach over 300 children and during school holidays they have to put in extra effort to serve more meals and provide a lekker environment for the laaities at the Revelation Ministry SA premises.
The foundation is being funded by a few generous individuals but Ivan says it becomes a challenge when there are not enough supplies.
He says each serving costs about R1000, which includes a fruit and a juice.
Though feeding the children is a key objective, he says any help would be welcome, especially getting more volunteers to help with their programmes.
“We need support to say no to hunger,” says Ivan.
“On the days of feeding, the children stand at the gate asking when we are serving, that is the crux of the matter.
“We also put shoes on their feet and do hygiene and educational programmes.
“The other way we would like the public to be involved is to partner with Rise Up Foundation by sponsoring and contributing towards what we are doing.
“Our goal is to be consistent with what we are doing and have a safe environment for children to come and play in.
“You know how life is in our communities with these drive-by shootings taking place.”
He says their long-term goal is for the children to be equipped with various life skills to help reach their potential despite their circumstances.
