If you’ve been dreaming about being a movie star, now’s your chance.
The founder of Power Generation Foundation, Ashley Pienaar, has started a film production company and needs aspiring actors to try out for auditions this weekend.
Ashley, from Ravensmead, started the PGF Media and Film Academy in September where he roped in disadvantaged youth from his community and taught them about film production, acting and television presenting.
“I started this because I felt there was a need for youth development in the arts sector,” he says.
“We are showing them how to use their phones to get the best film production out of it and editing using the apps available online for editing.
“Our kids need to study at expensive universities or win reality shows in order to ‘make it’, but what happens to those who don't win?
“They fall on the way side, I want to use those who didn't win.
“After six months of training, we are ready to make our own film, called White Lies, and we want to open up the opportunity (to be a part of it) to the public.”
Ashley says the movie looks at the long-term effects of small lies people tell, and will be filmed in Camps Bay, Piketberg, Mitchells Plain and Elsies River.
“It speaks of a coloured man and his white wife, he lives a double life portraying a perfect family but it soon comes out that he isn't who he pretends to be, (he is) a high flyer busy with the underworld.”
Ashley says they are still trying to source funding for the academy to make the workshops free.
On Friday and Saturday, auditions take place at 9am at 16 Voortrekker Road, Tygerberg Sentrum, Bellville office 503.
