Best-selling Cape Flats author Yusuf Daniels has launched his own talk show.
The Athlone-born outjie told the Daily Voice that the That Coloured Show wasn’t in his plans when he wrote his two books, Living Coloured (Because Black and White Were Already Taken) and Living Lekka – From Mitchells Plain to Aeroplane.
“Never did I imagine I’d soema have a talk show,” says the 45-year-old.
“I was on the Kaap, Kerrie en Koeksisters show with the Sydow sisters when their director called me up to say he thinks I should do my own talk show.
“I was gobsmacked… me? A talk show? Yoh, this was huge.
“Things came together fast and we neared some local entertainers to be part of the show and in one day we filmed two episodes.”
The father of three says his show deals with life on the Flats and is packed with laughter, song and dance.
“In the first episode, we have comedian Marc Lottering, singer Chad Saaiman, presenter and marketing guru Deen Woodman and poet Chelsea Goliath.
“The second show boasts a gawe lagbol session with Soli Philander and singer Nick Andrews.
“I don’t want to give away much but mense are in for a lekker surprise with this show, I’m just gonna say, prepare to laugh lekker.”
The property auctioneer adds: “Having my own show means I can use this bigger platform to promote my community and small businesses.”
The two episodes, recorded at Mother Studios in Philadelphia, with the first show available for R75 online via Quicket on 5 September. The second show will air on 3 October.
