The Red Bull Dance Your Style battles were electrifying on Saturday as Cape Town’s best dancers went head-to-head to crown the best in the Kaap.
After several intense rounds, it was Delron Davids aka Dely who took the top spot and who will now represent Cape Town at the national finals in October.
The competition was held at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal and the emphasis was on bringing people together in the celebration of dance, music and performance, and on recreating the party vibe that street dance styles are known for.
The moves were fierce as girls and boys danced it out in their unique styles to music played by DJ The Cutt.
Entertainer Melissa De Vries-Joseph was the MC and says: “The rounds were tight from prelims to the final round. The crowd decides who goes through.
“There were different styles being showcased. What I like is that people get to grow as a dancer, I think it's an amazing platform.”
Cape Town champ Dely was delighted with his win.
He told the Daily Voice: “My dance style is Hip Hop.
“I didn't expect to win.
“I just came through to have fun but I'm blessed to have won.
“This environment was refreshing and I liked that we could exchange.
“This is my second time in Dance Your Style, the first time I was in it to win it and then I didn't but now I changed my head space.”
Yakin Pillay from Rocklands Mitchells Plain says the competition was a learning curve.
“There was so much to exchange with other dancers.
“There were some ama piano, ballet and hip hop to share.
He adds: “The Red Bull dance workshops were educational.”
