Idols Season 17 is nearing the final stage, but not without Cape Town’s duo who booked their places in the Top 6.
Hanover Park’s golden boy Daylin Sass was hailed the top performer this week by judge Unathi, while Bothasig mom of four, Berry, reduced Unathi to tears with her performance of Amanda Black’s Power.
The contestants also made history by receiving instant offers of recording deals and songs written especially for them.
Sadly, it was the end of the road for Sia Mzizi.
The theme for the first half of Sunday’s show was Oskido’s playlist, with the Kalawa Jazmee Records boss joining judges Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams as guest judge.
The theme for the second half was the songbook of Max Martin, the Swedish record producer.
Berry continued to impress the judges, with Oskido remarking that “they needed a berry” in their stable after she performed Katy Perry’s Dark Horse.
Berry told the Daily Voice: “I feel like this is all a dream. I never thought I’d get this opportunity and now here I am.
“Every week I get more and more determined to be better than I was the previous week. I always listen to the judges comments and improve the areas where I can.”
Unathi declared Daylin Sass the top performer of the week after asking him to record his rendition of Lira’s Something inside so Strong, and praised his rendition of Zayne’s Pillow talk.
Daylin said: “I feel amazing. The further I go, the more grateful I become. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I’m grabbing it with both hands.
“Like Unathi said, I heed their comments very well and work on it and prepare for my next performance.
“The competition is tough, it’s unpredictable at this stage. I’m just doing my best week on week to make this worth my while and everyone else’s while watching my performances.”
