DJ Ready D is launching his long-awaited album this weekend, just in time for Heritage Day.
Deon Daniels, aka Ready D, started his Ghoema Music project in July 2019.
The world-renowned DJ describes the album as a fusion of rhythms inspired by his Cape ghoema heritage.
He says: “It’s a high energy fusion of hip hop, Afro beats, dancehall and ghoema.
“The album and live performances by the featured artists on the album will be launched via the JOOX SA music streaming app.”
The 13-track album features among others Youngsta CPT, Patty Monroe, BliksemStraal & Amigo and DJ Azhul.
Ready D adds: “We are taking a fresh new approach to the ghoema sound that’s unique to Cape Town and fusing it in a way that speaks to this generation.
“The hope for this album is to inspire our artists to embrace this sound and incorporate it into their music. This will add an interesting dynamic to the global music landscape.
“Jamaica is known for reggae, Brazil for samba, USA for hip hop, Johannesburg for gqom, kwaito and amapiano.
“We want to let the world know that we have ghoema music in Cape Town, that can be fused and crafted for all tastes and it is ready to be enjoyed and exported.”
Ready D says he is very excited about this album and specifically chose heritage month for the release.
“I have been working on it for over a year and a half. The desire to do a full-blown project with ghoema and fusing it with different genres has been with me throughout my career.
“I was exposed to ghoema music all of my life because I grew up in District 6.
“This is also a journey for me to learn more about our history and heritage.”
Ready D saluted all the featured artists saying each brought their own individuality.
“I wanted to put something into the world to lift people’s spirits and to make them feel proud of who they are,” he says.
Good Hope FM will debut the first single on the Stan Mars breakfast show today.
You can download the JOOX app to get the album and also see the launch performances on 12 September.
