It’s not just business that has had to move online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but also culture and entertainment.
This was Rylands couple Moeshfieka Botha and Nazeem Davids’ idea behind the launch of the Innie Kaap website, which was held at The Venue on Klip in Grassy Park on Saturday.
In true Kaapse style, the Ghoema Entertainers led by professional minstrel, Isgak Omar, brought a klopse vibe to the event.
Moeshfieka says: “The website has varying components ranging from Malay choirs, minstrels, sport, finance, small business development, news and social events.”
Nazeem says one of the core reasons for creating inniekaap.co.za was to make the traditional Cape Malay Nederlands liedjies accessible to everyone.
“We cannot keep this culture amongst a select few. We have to share it, otherwise, it will die out.,” he says.
“It is with this in mind that we have uploaded nearly 500 liedjies dating back to the 1960s to Innie Kaap.
“The liedjies are 100% free to download and the response to it has been phenomenal.
“Our mense are loving it, We will also be telling the stories of our legends of the different sporting codes through articles and videos, so that the current generation knows on whose shoulders they stand.”
The website will also feature sports contributors, financial advice from industry professionals, social and youth projects and a directory for small local businesses.
Moeshfieka adds: “Covid-19 has affected every household in our community. The struggle is real. Now, more than ever we need to support small businesses in our community.
“This website will serve as the place to go for anyone looking for koesiesters on a Sunday morning, to mechanics, retailers, fashion brands, graphic designers, bookkeepers, food places, bakers, butchers and candlestick makers.”
Though the soft launch was on Saturday, the site will only be fully operational on 1 January 2021.
