Mitchells Plain’s oldest drama group, Die Kinders Van Die Ses, het behoorlik uitgehang at the weekend, when they held their 30th Anniversary Black Tie Ball.
The event took place on Friday, and the Westridge Civic Centre in Mitchells Plain was packed as people came to see the old and new cast come together to celebrate this fantastic milestone in style.
Kinders Van Die Ses started out in Omar “Boeta Maan” Adams’ two-bedroom home in Mitchells Plain in 1987, with the help of his wife Mareldia Adams and Elizabeth Isobel, the mom of entertainer Alistair Izobel.
On Friday, Boeta Maan thanked all the role players who have been with him and KVDS over the years, with the Daily Voice getting the first honourable mention.
“I have to say thank you to the Daily Voice for always being there to cover our events and tell the stories of our people,” he said.
Boeta Maan went on to give an award to Mareldia, aka Auntie Marel, saying: “Marel has been with me since day one, she was like a mother to the Kinders Van Die Ses cast and a pillar in the group.”
Aunty Mareldia thanked Boeta Maan for his hard work and commitment for the past 30 years, before giving him a lekker smooch on the lips to show her appreciation.
Other famous cast members who started out with KVDS also came to congratulate Boeta Maan.
Ramaine Barreiro-Lloyd, 39, was nine years old when she started in KVDS.
“Boeta Maan has been a real example to us. It’s because of him that we are where we are today.”
Boeta Maan’s eldest son Loukmaan Adams, as well as Junaid Booysen, Ricardo Daniels, Shamiela Stevens, Paula Herold and loads others took to the dance floor to jol for one night together again.
