Get ready for Cape Town’s first music festival under lockdown.
Over 20 local artists are getting together for the Jeodhouse Online Music Festival happening this weekend.
Founders of the band Jeodhouse, Devanish Hendricks and Juanita Cloete, will be MCs hosting the festival at their home studio in Plumstead.
Acts will be spread over three days and the line-up includes YoungstaCPT, Jeodhouse, Tye Platinum, BrownSuga ft Lee-Ron, Loren Erasmus, DJ Rory, Guitar Ensemble ft Brent Krus, Dustin Julius and Shaun Franke, PJ Twins, Vocal Associates and Prophetic Joy.

The festival will be streamed live on Jeodhouse’s Facebook and YouTube platforms.
The festival is FREE, however, mense will be able to make a “love offering”, says Devanish.
Juanita explains: “Initially we had 27 June reserved for an online show for the band Jeodhouse, but we felt that there are so many artists that do not have a platform, studio or venue to have an online show and all these things cost money.
“We are blessed to have a studio at home, hence the reason we felt we wanted to share this platform with our fellow artists and create a platform where they can perform because it’s difficult for all of us not being active and not having an income.”
All concerts and shows were cancelled on 27 March after the country went on lockdown due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Devanish says like for many others, live streaming is a first for him.
“I am very excited and also nervous at the same time, planning this event took a lot of energy and time,” he says.
“Online performances are 100 times more difficult than what we are used to, anything can happen so you must be well prepared.”

He says it appears the public is embracing the “new normal” of online shows.
“We had loads of challenges, but seeing people comment and show their excitement and anticipation for the show gave us the drive and boost to follow through.”
Friday and Saturday will see collaborations of Hip Hop, R&B, House and Jazz.
The festival concludes Sunday with Jazz and Gospel music.
