One of South Africa’s jazz icons, Sammy Webber, needs your help to raise funds for an operation after his health has further deteriorated.
In 2010, Sammy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and shortly thereafter, his eyesight deteriorated so badly that he could hardly perform.
As a result, he is suffering financially.
This month, Sammy was given more bad news when he was told that due to some of his medication, his hip joints had been seriously damaged and he needs a hip replacement.
“The cartilage has been eroded and the gel is all dried, which means movement for me is bone-on-bone and that makes movement excruciating at this point,” the musician says.
Sammy, 61, says the bone in the one hip is badly deformed and some of the bone tissue around the hip joint is dying.

“The only option now is to have a double hip replacement. This means I will be out of action for the next eight months.
“Due to the fact that bills still need to be paid with the constant medical needs and appointments with various specialists every few months, I have depleted my savings. I will be eternally grateful if you can somehow help.”
His friends at the African Musicians Trust are asking for your assistance to help Sammy get through the next eight months without having to stress about financial implications.
