Leading the pack, 'Game of Thrones'

Game of Thrones and The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story are leading the way with the most Emmy nominations this year.

The fantasy drama received 23 nominations overall, including best drama series, two for best supporting actor and three for best supporting actress.

Meanwhile, The People vs OJ Simpson, chronicling the sensational murder trial of OJ Simpson in 1995, got 22 nominations, including best limited series and best actor for Cuba Gooding Jr as the disgraced former football star.

Rounding out the best drama contenders are Homeland, The Americans, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, Downton Abbey and Mr Robot.

Actor Anthony Anderson, who co-hosted the Emmy nomination announcements, shouted with joy as he was named a contender for best comedy actor in the ABC sitcom Black-ish.

HBO’s political satire Veep led the comedy race with 17 nominations, including a nod for best actress for Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The winners, voted for by the 20 000-plus members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, will be announced on September 18.
