Funnyman Wayne McKay is back with a new set of jokes he brought “from overseas”.
Fresh from his skit on the cruiser, the MSC Sinfonia, Wayne is now gearing up for his one-man show, Fresh Off The Boat.
The 49-year-old Mitchells Plain comic says his virgin cruise exposed him to loads of hilarious and scary moments that he’s added to his material.
“When I went on the cruise ship earlier this year, I wrote new comedy material every day of being there,” he laughs, “like how couples tend to get dik of each other after spending four straight days on the ship together.
“Or when a wife looks for her husband and questions ‘waar was jy’ and then the bra just went for some sightseeing or a walky.”
But like with most comedians in South Africa, there’s no shortage of real-life drama and Wayne says: “Some other material I include speaks about very important topics, like the polony saga, the water crisis and not forgetting Aunty Patty de Lille se hofsaak.
“A Cape Town audience is always a thrill to entertain on stage, I love this city vibe and culture.”
The father of two also has his own evening slot on Bush Radio called Laidback Thursday, from 8pm to 10pm.
And he loves to pay it forward; Wayne always uses up-and-coming local comedians as opening acts, including Reagan Allen, Lunga Tshuka, Keegan Cerff and Khanyiso Kenqa.
Fresh Off The Boat will be on at the Mesopotamia Restaurant in Greenmarket Square on 29 and 30 June.
Tickets cost R120 each and you can book by calling 082 724 7968.
