Madeegha Anders and her son Ashur Petersen are breaking the internet with their duets.
Their latest collaboration received over 4 MILLION views.
It all started a month ago when Ashur, 26, and Madeegha, 55, from Lansdowne, spent Mother’s Day together at home and decided to record a song, singing Labrinth’s hit Jealous.
They uploaded the video on Instagram as a humble Mother’s Day treat for their followers, and was shocked to see they received over 6 000 hits within eight hours, while the sweet video was viewed 34 000 times on Facebook.
On Monday, the mom and son duo uploaded another video, this time singing the theme song to Disney’s Aladdin, A Whole New World.
It’s only been a week, and already this video has been viewed a whopping 4.7 million times.
Madeegha says her ex-husband, and Ashur’s dad, the late great Taliep Petersen, would have been proud of their son’s efforts.
“The inspiration for these videos come from Ashur. He tried this out with me for Mother’s Day and now he wanted to do a follow-up,” she says.

“He asked me to come to his studio a day before he uploaded the video. We pre-recorded the song to lay down the vocals and then we made the video after. Ashur is a perfectionist and he made this video so well, he takes pride in his craft.”
Ashur, who was recently booted off the reality TV show, The Voice SA, says he can scarcely believe all the love.

“I do think it’s doing so well because of the new Aladdin movie,” he adds.
The live action version of the Disney classic, starring Will Smith as the genie, was released last week. Ashur adds: “People kept asking when we are doing another video since our last one, so it was the perfect song at the perfect time.”
And just to be clear, if you have doubted his or his mom’s talent, the young man adds: “Our videos aren’t touched by auto-tune, for those who think we use it, nope. It’s all us, naturally.”
