The family of a teen meisie who allegedly posted a racist and homophobic tweet against TV personality Somizi Mhlongo claims she’s living in fear after getting death threats.
The 19-year-old student’s family has hired a public relations expert to handle the backlash, and for damage control.
Family and friends say Lia Meyer fears for her life after receiving death threats on social media, including images of men holding guns, spears and axes directed at Meyer.
This follows a tweet posted from her account on Tuesday which reads: “Isn’t @somizi like a homosexual k@ffertjie? (sic)”.
Meyer has denied sending out the tweet from her @Liaa_Nu account, claiming her account was hacked.
She has since laid charges at the Cape Town Central Police Station against the “hacker”.
Meanwhile, Somizi rallied his 1.18 million Twitter followers to track down Meyer, saying: “My tweeter investigators pls help find the details of this racist. Jail awaits her.”
He’s also confirmed he’s considering taking legal action against Meyer, adding that there is no place for racists in South African society.
Meyer claims she “did not post this tweet, would never make such a remark, takes no responsibility for the view that was expressed in that tweet and sincerely apologise for the horrific message that was sent out”.
