Grandmster DJ Ready D might have to open a scratch lab for dogs - and not for fleas but for vinyl.
A video was posted on social media on Sunday, showing the world-renowned DJ, whose real name is Deon Daniels, teaching a doggy called Foxi how to wreck the decks.
Deon and his wife Malikah say they went on a road trip last week and stopped for lunch at a restaurant in Gansbaai, where they met the friendly brown Pomeranian.
Malikah says as they sat down to lunch, Foxi, who belongs to the restaurant’s owner, immediately “put on a show”, as if trying to draw their attention.
“We met Foxi who seemed to be a very friendly dog, and when she saw me, she stood on her hind legs and waved her paws at me, as if to say she wants my attention,” Malikah explains.

“Deon noticed her stamina and the paws ready to scratch some beats on the decks.
“Deon picked her up and Foxi sat on his lap, continuously waving her paws.”
Malikah says she took out her phone to capture the hondjie in action.
Deon put his own phone on the table and opened a DJ app to see if Foxi had talent.
“I’m a real dog lover and so I was keen to check why Foxi wanted to be on my lap, she looks like a lapdog,” says Deon.
“I put my hand on my phone to scratch a beat and Foxi joined in using her paw as well.
“It’s like she was a DJ in her past life, because she seemed like a natural.”
SCRATCH: Grandmaster DJ Ready D and funky Foxi
Malikah says the owner was thrilled and told them Foxi was four years old.
“The owner saw how she was performing, and said it’s OK if we put her on our social media page, the owner is so proud of Foxi and was opgemaak with her showing off to customers,” she says.
The video posted on Instagram garnered over 3 600 views in less than a day.
“People always see me uploading drifting or DJing videos and don’t know that I’m actually a softy for animals. I love dogs,” says Deon.
The couple owns a rottweiler and a pit bull, and Deon says Foxi is not the first dog he’s seen with an interest and a talent for DJing.
He says his two-year-old pittie Milo is also a fan of his work. “Sometimes my own dog will come into the room when I’m on the decks scratching, just to put his head and paws onto the decks to have his chance to play around with me.”
