Today is Valentine’s Day and that usually means spoiling your loved ones with gifts to express your love and appreciation.
But not everyone is in the mood for love on the world’s most romantic day, as the Daily Voice found out when we asked Cape Town celebs what their plans are for today.
Known to sweep the ladies off their feet with his smooth voice, singer Nur Abrahams admits he is a hopeless romantic who drops hints to his wife weeks before the time.
But they also like to turn Valentine’s Day into a family affair.
“I always include our children because they fulfil and round up the love we share,” he says.
“We shower my wife, Tasneem, with gifts, the kids and I cook her something nice for supper and then later the evening, my wife and I will go out alone”

And then there are couples like DJ Ready D and his wife, Malikah, who believe Valentine’s Day is just a money-making scheme.
“We are non-traditional and that’s OK because we click on that level,” says Ready D.
“I guess the company I’ve kept over the years has convinced me that Valentine’s Day isn’t a thing.
“Malikah and I have been together for nearly 30 years and life has been a treat, so what difference is one day going to make?”

Salome Damon Johansen and her wife, Rosie, are planning to spend the day with friends and having a lekker dinner tonight.
“In my opinion, it’s a day to just remind your loved ones how much you love them,” the singer says.
Joker Marc Lottering and his husband, Anwar McKay, will be working on his Aunty Merle the Musical show in Johannesburg tonight.
“We don’t usually make a big thing of going out for lunch or dinner on Valentine’s Day, there’s too much pressure to buy flowers and look lovey-dovey,” says Marc.

“Anwar and I met through a dating agency, before Facebook, 21 years ago. We chatted on the phone, went on a date, fell head over heels, and the rest is fabulous history.”
And Chad Chitter, aka DJ Skouers, is not even considering romance, he is spending the day with his mommy.

“My mom is my Valentine, I’m taking her to a Japanese restaurant in Camps Bay, she is the only lady in my life, she is always my only Valentine,” he says.
