The final curtain was drawn for Cape Town’s Idols SA finalist Lincoln Lewis as he exited the show on Sunday.
In a thrilling Showstopper Night theme, Lincoln did his last performance as part of the Top Eight ensemble, who paid homage to the travelling circus with their opening number, This Is Me, the hit song from the movie The Greatest Showman.
Out of the nearly nine million votes cast over the week, Lincoln received the fewest and had to bow out of the show to make way for the Top Seven.
Lincoln says: “It’s funny how every week, I would hear my name being called in my head, just before they call it. But this week it was different; I kept hearing Niyaaz [Arendse] being called, and it was just that.
“I believe everything happens for a reason and maybe it wasn’t meant for me to win this competition. I find comfort in the fact that I am out because of a lack of votes and not because of bad performance. Every week I received positive comments from the judges, since I started.”
The 23-year-old Ravensmead singer says this is not the end of his dreams for fame and fortune.
“When I get home, I plan to start gigging as much as possible so I can pursue a full-time career in music. I plan to do a few collaborations when I’m back in Cape Town,” he added.
Remaining Cape contenders, Yanga Sobetwa and Niyaaz, are through to the next round.
Idols SA Season 14 is on Mzansi Magic, DStv Channel 161 on Sundays at 5pm.
