PARTY WITH PATTY: Mayor to turn on Christmas lights
The festive season is officially here because on Sunday the Mayor is switching on the lights in Adderley Street.

There’s a big jol being planned on the Grand Parade in Cape Town for when Mayor Patricia De Lille flicks the switch for kwaai Krismis liggies.

The party starts at 4pm and the lights will go on after sunset, at 8.30pm.

MCs for the event are comedian Soli Philander and actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards.

And, mense, there’s a lot to be enjoyed at this free open-air jol.

The entertainment is a star-studded line-up led by AKA and DJ Black Coffee.

Joining them is DJ Ready D, Kurt Darren, Karin Kortje, Matthew Gold, DJ Lance Theron, Candice Thornton, Robin Pieters from The Voice SA, and the children of the late Taliep Petersen.

De Lille says: “Along with a high-tech stage in front of City Hall, a video mapping experience, and the entertainment line-up,

“I am excited to once again lead the festive lights countdown amid an explosion of music, dance, lasers and staging effects, culminating later in the video mapping of the City Hall façade.”

This is Cape Town’s largest free open-air public event and the theme for this year is “City of Ideas – Let’s get on with it, Cape Town”.

There are going to be road closures around the Grand Parade and Adderley Street on Sunday, and large volumes of traffic are expected coming into the city centre, so if you want to be at this party make sure you get there early.
