Karin Kortje is busy as a bee and last week released a new single.
It’s a cover of Regina Belle’s hit Baby Come To Me and was produced by radio DJ Diggy Bongz.
Karin, 38, is known for her soaring ballads and says the twist on the song is that it has a house flavour.
The diva from Grabouw also recently released an Afrikaans song - the theme tune of telenovela Arendsvlei on KykNet.
She says her version of Baby Come To Me is not brand-new either as the song was recorded four years ago already, at Soullife Audio Boutique Studio. Copyright and other legal issues prevented her and Diggy Bongz from releasing the song up to now.
“At the time, Diggy approached me with this song and said he wanted me to be the voice of this song,” says Karin.
The 2005 winner of Idols SA says she felt she needed a push in the right direction and thought this would be her “big break”.
But things didn’t go as expected.
An optimistic Karin adds: “But the song is out now and it’s a brilliant version of this song. It completely took me out of my comfort zone. The genre is soulful house.
“The aim of the song is to show the people a different side of Karin and that I am versatile and because I am trying to be an inspiration, I want to try and reach the younger generation.
“But it was also a desire of mine to record a house song just to see what the reaction would be, so I am very excited about this song.”
Baby Come To Me is available on all digital platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, Tidal and Google Play Music.
