In the last of The Voice SA’s all-new KnockOut rounds, coach Francois van Coke locked down his team on Sunday night to take them into the Battle rounds starting next week.
Six phenomenal singers join Francois’s two Steals from previous KnockOuts. They are Cape Town songbird Nikita Williams, 25, from #TeamRiky, and fellow Capetonian Mo George, 21, from #TeamLIRA.
However, one Cape Town talent has landed in the Danger Zone after a legacy performance paying tribute to his musician dad.
The late Taliep Petersen’s son, Ashur, 26, chose one of his father’s favourite songs, Queen of Hearts, to perform as a tribute.
Ashur’s heartfelt performance was not enough to save him, and an emotional Francois said although the performance was “super-cool”, he only had three seats available in his Safe Zone, thereby relegating Ashur to wait in the Danger Zone.
This means the singer now needs the public vote to push him through to the next round.

Ashur tells the Daily Voice: “I felt nervous and emotional about this round of the competition. However, it was more of a riveting and exciting rollercoaster.
“I couldn’t have chosen a better song to sing. Not only was it a tribute to my late father, but it’s also one of my favourites.”
Next up was Tasché Burger, 18, from Brackenfell, singing the crowd favourite The Story by Brandi Carlisle.
She gave a knockout performance and Francois wisely put Tasché in his Safe Zone.
Payroll officer, Anslin Gysman, 22, from Philippi chose the Bruno Mars hit, Just The Way You Are, earning himself a standing ovation and a spot in the Safe Zone.
“It was a bit nerve-wracking as well, because the number of contestants are decreasing, but I just remembered the wise words from my mom ‘dis als goud, gaan vir goud’,” the excited singer says.

Singing waitron Sadé Ross, 29, from Cape Town chose the showstopping ballad This Is Me from the musical, The Greatest Showman, but she also fell short and Francois asked her to wait in what he called “the DZ” (danger zone).
On Sunday, 28 April, the four teams go into the exciting Battle Rounds, where they will literally go voice to voice to make it to the top.
