One of Cape Town’s favourite dance spots is facing closure after three months in lockdown.

To try and prevent this from happening, the Phoenix Nightclub in Ottery is hosting Save The Jol, an online event they hope will raise enough funds to pay their outstanding rent.

Co-Owner Clint Blanchard says: “It’s been almost three months since we’ve had our last drink at the bar or shared a platter at a table, smoked a hookah with friends, did shots with the bartenders or danced the night away.

“We really miss all our patrons, and we know you miss us too.”

Co-owner Renno Fortuin said business has come to a complete standstill.

“Even though we were providing jobs for 16 different households, the government and banks have not provided any kind of support for our small business.”

Renno has had to resort to buying and selling cars while Clint ventured into producing live streaming events.

“Phoenix might face permanent closure in the next few months as the backlog of rent increases month by month with the business being closed,” says Renno.

“We are hosting a few online events starting this Saturday with Save The Jol.

“Tickets and food can be ordered online via Quicket.”

On Saturday, all their resident DJs will get together at Club Phoenix to replicate “that unique Phoenix vibe” that you can enjoy in the comfort of your own lounge.

So stock up on the dop and snacks, take out your hookah pipe, clear the lounge and jol to the sound of Club Phoenix.

Tickets are available via Quicket for R40.
