The Boeber Run was started in 2015 by Irafaan ‘Fanie’ Abrahams – a Capetonian teacher who is also a passionate community worker and well-known radio presenter.
The monthly event sees runners completing 5km, with supporters driving along, to various locations in the greater Cape Town area where warme boeber, soup, bread, blankets and other items are handed to the homeless and less fortunate.
The goodies are usually donated by good Samaritans.
June’s Boeber Run, and the last one before Ramadaan, is taking place on Saturday, and the meeting point will be at “The Rock” at Rondebosch Common at 8pm.
“From here we will run to the Woodstock Police Station where we will hop into the vehicles and head to Pine Road in Woodstock which will serve as our first distribution point for the evening,” organisers say.
They will then head to the Grand Parade, where they will serve mense with a warme cup of boeber, a sandwich, fruit and an item of clothing.
Organisers are asking for donations of food and clothing, especially boys' and men’s items, as well as shoes.
