Zoë Zana is back with a bang and ready to make her presence felt in Cape Town.

Zoë, 25, from Bishop Lavis, was the sole remaining female to reach the top four on Idols SA in 2013.

Six years after releasing her first two singles, titled Bulletproof, followed by You Make Me Whole, the artist has now produced her first self-written single.

Called I May, it drops on 6 June on all digital platforms.

She says: “I May was recorded in one month and I wrote the song in one day.”

After four years of travelling, she’s been back home for four months, and says fans can expect fresh new sounds from her.

“This song is an inspirational piece for people who feel they are stuck in the same place,” she says.

Between 2015 and 2018, Zoë has been touring abroad with a South African band, The Soul Collective.

“It was a life-changing opportunity for me to perform for King [Mohammed VI] and his family at his palace in Rabat and Agadir, in Morocco, and also to be booked as an opening act for Lexi Pantera and the French hitmaker DJ Battle.”

Zoë says she’s been trying out new things in her first self-penned single. “The song builds up to exactly how my career has evolved over the years.”

She believes her music may not be to everyone’s taste as she’s deviating from her normal styles of classic and hip hop tunes to a fusion of genres.

“It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it might be someone’s shot of tequila.”
