Alleged abuser Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo has defended his actions saying his girlfriend, Babes Wodumo, had struck him first.
Mampintsha was released on R2000 bail after being charged with assault at the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The charges relate to video footage, released on Instagram.
He told media outside court: “We fought from the room to the bathroom, she kept hitting me while I was trying to make my way to go and wash the blood off my lips.
“Babes is very provocative and she knows that I will get angry at the end of the day. I hit her twice on the back, not on her face. I was asleep when she arrived back home and was sober.”
He added when she comes “home drunk I usually leave the house. I can’t allow Babes to keep hitting me because when I inform her parents, they can’t even assist”.
Meanwhile, a concert organised by Mampintsha’s West Ink Records at the University of the Western Cape in May could be in jeopardy.
Although the event application is still being processed, UWC and its SRC say a final decision will only be made once investigations have been completed.
Talking about the abuse allegations on the Metro FM Breakfast Fresh Show on Monday, Somizi said a big part of the country was feeling distraught.
Stating that his ‘Woooooo Shem’ goes to Mampintsha after he woke up to the news of the alleged abuse video saying: “This has been happening far too often and for way too long that she is at a point now when she knows it’s gonna come so let me put evidence and go live.”
Somzi says he was booked for the event.
And Baynomoya gqom star Busiswa replied to a tweet asking her and Distruction Boyz to also pull out of an upcoming show: “Yep, I’m out.”
