Cape Town got a rude awakening last week when the first episode of Survivor SA: Island of Secrets kicked off.
In a shocking move, Mrs Cape Town 2018, Lee-Anne van Renen, was booted off the show on the FIRST day.
Along with her torch, Lee-Anne’s hopes were snuffed out, proving there’s no such thing as a “winning formula” in Survivor.
In the previous season, Survivor SA: Philippines, the first castaway to get the boot was deemed to be too fast out of the blocks. In Samoa, Lee-Anne chose a slower pace, which was used against her when tribe Sa’ula lost the first immunity challenge and was sent to Tribal Council.
Until Lee-Anne’s early exit, the tribe had two pageant winners, with Nicole Capper, who was crowned Mrs South Africa in 2018, a competition in which Lee-Anne made it only to the last 25.

According to M-Net, a disappointed Lee-Anne said she couldn’t believe they’d voted her out: “Now they sit with somebody who is not as fast and agile and an injured person who doesn’t know when his foot will heal. I still think they made the biggest mistake ever.”
Survivor South Africa: Island of Secrets is screened on M-Net every Thursday at 7 pm.
