Soapie fans will remember them as the father-and-son team of popular 7de Laan.

But having left the melodrama of Hillside behind, veteran SA actor Zane Meas, 53, and Christo Davids, 35, express their talents as producer and director.

Cape Town fans will be able to enjoy their latest work, which marks the fifth collaboration between the duo in a 12-year partnership.

Created and performed by Zane under Christo’s direction, the production, called Van Wyk - The Storyteller of Riverlea, will be on at the Baxter Flipside from 12 to 29 June.

Van Wyk - The Storyteller of Riverlea explores the life of renowned South African author Chris van Wyk, and explores his influence as a poet, writer and political activist, as well as his family life and battle with cancer.

Explaining their interchangeable roles of director and actor, Zane says: “It is always a pleasure working with Christo as we have a very easy and comfortable working relationship. We’ve been doing it for so long.

“Christo directs me in this one; he is directing me for the second time and I have directed him twice. We are also good friends and colleagues for many years now.”

Zane, 53, says his kids keep him “young and busy”.

“I have been working on various projects as an actor - from Spoorloos on KykNet to e-tv’s Scandal! to my NGO, The Fatherhood Foundation of SA, and of course my family keeps me busy. I have five children and a mortgage so I have to stay busy or am kept busy by them,” he jokes.

Tickets range from R120 to R150 via Webtickets or at Pick n Pay outlets.
